Planting, Mulch and Shrub Care
Planting in Thompson's Station often works best in layers: trees where there is room, shrubs for structure, perennials or groundcovers for seasonal interest, and mulch to tie the bed together. Good plant installation starts with mature size, not a full look on day one.
Mulch depth also matters. A clean mulch layer helps retain moisture and reduce weeds, but piling mulch too deep or against trunks and root flares can create plant health problems. Around shrubs, mulch installation should support the bed without burying stems or trapping moisture against the crown.
Seasonal trimming keeps the landscape from losing its shape. Shrubs near walks, porches, and windows need airflow and space, while privacy plantings need enough room to grow without becoming a wall that is impossible to maintain.
